LORA Self-Service Course Registration Support
A Loyola advisor will register you for your first semester. After your first semester please follow the steps below to register for courses in LORA Self-Service.
Steps for Registering for Classes
(1) Contact/schedule an appointment with your advisor.
You must consult your advisor, usually a member of the faculty in your declared degree program, before you register for classes. Your advisor needs to approve your planned schedule and “clear” you to register. Your advisor will not register you for classes. You must do that yourself.
You can find your faculty advisor’s contact information in your LORA Self-Service account, under your user profile. If you are unsure of how to schedule a meeting with this advisor remotely, send her or him an email.
Make sure you have received written confirmation from your advisor that you have been cleared to register.
(2) Check LORA Self-Service for any registration holds that may prevent you from registering on time.
Holds can be related to various issues such as an overdue or unmet financial aid obligation, not meeting with your advisor, or not signing off on your Student Responsibilities and Expectations Agreement.
Holds will be listed in your LORA Self-Service account and reflected as red flags on the homepage of your user account. These holds can serve as barriers to timely registration when you actually register if they have not been resolved.
For financial holds, you will want to connect with Student Financial Services at 504-865-3337 or sfscenter@loyno.edu.
(3) Draft an outline of a schedule for registration.
Do this before you meet with your advisor.
In order to register for classes, you need to know which classes your degree program requires you to take. There are two ways to find this information.
Your Degree Program Course Listing (DPCL) is a sheet that shows all requirements, Core, Major, Adjunct, and Elective for each degree program on campus. You can find your DPCL in the University Bulletin. Make sure that the DPCL matches the year you started at Loyola.
Once you have determined which requirements remain, search for classes on LORA Self-Service under “Course Catalog” following these instructions:
- To search for courses, choose “term” and “course catalog”
- View available courses
- Click on an available section
- You can then view available seats, taken seats, capacity of courses, and waitlisted seats
- Click “add to schedule” to create a schedule draft or course plan
- Then click “add section”
- Go to course plan and course will show up
- Repeat this process until you have a full schedule draft to submit to your advisor
(4) Register for classes.
Now that you have made a draft schedule, met with your advisor, checked your registration holds (and made arrangements to clear those holds, if there were any), it’s time to register!
Remember that you will register for courses on your own. Log into your LORA Self-Service account and select your course plan and submit it to register for all of your planned courses at once. Keep in mind that, if you do not have a necessary prerequisite for a course or if a class has a waitlist, you will receive a notification. If this occurs, add a new course from the course catalog.
Please remember that, even after you register your schedule does not have to be final. You can make changes to your schedule through the class drop/add deadlines. If you register and remain uncertain about your schedule, you can still contact your academic advisor and discuss it with them.
